Classic Art Deco, this antique brooch combines a wonderful classical portrait with an ornate frame. The floral motif is carried over in to the lady’s hair, with carefully carved roses perfectly placed to take advantage of the color of the shell. A white gold ‘barette’ has been inlaid with diamonds and set in the ladies hair!
Cameo is the art of carving a layered material, creating a portrait or landscape with the difference in the colors. While traditionally done in shell, banded onyx has been used in cameo work – particularly in Greece and Italy – for hundreds, if not thousands, of years.
