This fantastic Art Deco era ring is iconic of the early 1900s, with a perfectly preserved synthetic ruby gemstone set at its center. In the Victorian era, transportation was far more expensive than it is now. Rubies had to be brought from Burma, and Emeralds from South America. This cost translated into the price of the stones, making them far too expensive for the average consumer. In response, jewelers found interesting ways to make natural stones go a little farther. Synthetics were created: stones faceted from crystals grown in laboratories. These remained popular right through the Art Deco era.
