This style of antique filigree ring is sometimes called a basket setting. The open, airy mounting sits low to the finger and extends beyond the edge of the sapphire, protecting the stone. Engraving decorates the sides of the ring and the filigree metalwork is feminine and lacy, but is still super strong from being die-struck in the 1920’s – and the filigree is still in superb condition!
We’ve set this pretty antique setting with a demantoid garnet. First discovered in the Ural Mountains of Russia in the 1860’s, Demantoid Garnet is a variety of garnet that is shaded green by trace elements present during the formation of the stone. They have wonderful sparkle and luster, and are complemented here by small, rose cut diamonds.
