Versatile and lovely, this large pendant or brooch is crafted of fine 14k white gold. The framework is in the traditional style, with lovely, detailed leaves surrounding the solid, simple bezel frame. The cameo itself is perfectly carved, a lady in profile wearing many roses and flowers throughout her hair. The color of the shell is a rich, warm tan, and the carved cameo portion is creamy with hints of orange.

Cameo is the art of carving a layered material, creating a portrait or landscape with the difference in the colors. While traditionally done in shell, banded onyx has been used in cameo work – particularly in Greece and Italy – for hundreds, if not thousands, of years.
