Stone: Purple Spinel 10 x 11mm oval, 5.8ct
Accents: Diamond = 0.02ct
Metal: 14K White Gold
Size: 12 x 17 mm with bail
This rich, dark orchid purple spinel is filled with light, thanks to the excellent undercutting. This fancy cut brings glitter and shine all the way in to the center of the gem, revealing bright pink and hyacinth flashes of color.
Spinel has a long history as a precious gem. Until modern science developed the ability to truly discern the composition of gems, red spinel was considered to be ruby, and blue spinel was considered as sapphire. In fact, Spinel has a much higher refraction rate than sapphire, meaning that it throws more light from the inside of the stone and is usually very sparkly. The color can range from pale pink to deep purple and touch every point of the rainbow in between.
